In a similar fashion to the last couple years, Capcom decided to reveal a new character from their latest game, Street Fighter V, before the Ultra Street Fighter IV finals at Evolution 2015. Necalli, who appears to be of native New Zealand decent, is exactly what I’ve been looking for in a Street Fighter character for a long time – he’s a big, buff dude that dosen’t appear to play like a traditional grappler. The closest character I can think of in terms of aesthetics is Blazblue’s Azrael, especially since one of the moves shown off in Necalli’s trailer involves him slamming the ground to create a shockwave.
This type of character is pretty rare in a traditional street fighter title, however, as most burly street fighters are relegated to being low-tier command grabbers. I’m looking forward to seeing how Necalli plays, but if the trailer is at all indicative of his final form, Necalli looks to be a very interesting brawler that turns into a Super Saiyan radish once his V-Trigger is activated.
